Walk-in Appointments: Monday-Wednesday with Barbara Howard, WHNP FROM 1-3 PM
Barbara Howard, WHNP-BC, APRN, is a women's health care nurse practitioner at Austin Springs Women's Health in Austin, Texas. She has been working with Martha Schmitz, MD, since 2005.
Barbara started her career as a registered nurse in 1975. She has extensive experience in a variety of areas in health care and has found women’s health and adolescent health to be the most rewarding.
Barbara completed the women’s health nurse practitioner program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas in 1992. Upon graduating, she relocated to Tyler, Texas, and worked as the maternity coordinator for the Smith County Health Department, focusing on youth outreach relating to sexually transmitted infections and family planning.
Active in the academic community, Barbara served as a preceptor for graduate Nurse Practitioner students during their OB/GYN rotations. She is also active in many nonprofit organizations, such as Susan G. Komen and Outreach Health Disparity for Women.
When she’s not at work, she enjoys volunteering at the Smithville Community Clinic. Barbara has two married children, two grandchildren and a large extended family. She enjoys reading, hiking, doing Zumba, camping, traveling, and listening to jazz. --
